New Prices from July 2018
When you visit us at Bullock Farm we hope that you will have a great experience whether you’re fishing, camping or staying in our holiday cottages. Unfortunately, the cost of maintenance, refurbishment and investment in new stock doesn’t come for free and therefore we’ve had to make the difficult decision to increase some of our prices. We hope you will agree that the new prices still offer excellent value for money.
So, for the first time since 2010, we’ll be increasing our fishing prices for day tickets and season tickets. With effect from 1st July 2018 our new prices will be £8 for adults and £6 for Juniors (14 & under) / OAP’s / Disabled. There is still no charge for extra rods. Season tickets will increase to £160 for adults and £120 for concessions.
On the campsite, prices for adults will be £8 per person per night, children (14 or under) will be £5 per night, dogs will remain the same at £1 per night and the price for an electric hook up will also remain the same at £3 per night. Use of the shower/toilet facilities are still included in the price. These increases will also take effect from 1st July 2018.
If you have an existing booking for after 1st July 2018, we will honour the price quoted at the time your booking was made.
New Stock Introduced - Tuesday 20th March 2018
New stock arrived into Rushcombe Lake on Tuesday, 20th March.
We took delivery of a further 1,000 pasty-sized stock fish - a mixture of commons and mirrors from Staffordshire in superb condition and very lively!
We topped up our stock for the third year in a row and it’s worth mentioning that, when we introduced the new fish last year, the fishing stepped up a gear almost immediately - to such an extent that the pleasure bag was broken with Tim Hadland weighing in 245.35 lb, breaking the previous record of 216lb set by Mark Bellringer in 2013.
It's so nice when customers take the time and trouble to let us know that they've enjoyed their stay with us so, we're delighted to have found this in our visitors' book in the Loose House.
NEW STOCK HAS ARRIVED!
Thursday 9th March 2017 was a lovely, sunny spring day - ideal to introduce some beautiful new carp. Approximately 1,500 fish were delivered from Staffordshire: 1,000 have gone into Rushcombe Lake and the remaining 500 into the North Pool. They are a mixture of common, mirror and linear carp and are in superb condition. They are already stirring things up - bring some pellets! Photos on our gallery.
We had an interesting day on 21st September 2016. The Environment Agency asked if they could put some traps into the lakes to see whether we had any invasive or unwanted species. The traps were put in place and then retrieved the following morning. We're very pleased to report that we didn't find anything we didn't want or shouldn't have! What we did find were lots of beautiful little roach, some stunning little linear mirrors and perch - all in really great condition. Fish for the future! Photos of what went on can be viewed on Facebook - click here and please 'like' our page.
We are now taking bookings to stay in our lovely holiday cottages in 2016. You can check here on our availability calendar.
Did you know you can get 8 days' free fishing and wireless internet access when you book a week in one of our barn-conversion holiday cottages? View the tariff here or give us a call on 01934 835020 to find out more.
Record-breaking pleasure bag from Rushcombe Lake!
Tim Hadland has had a few great sessions here lately but on Wednesday 19th April 2017 he caught an amazing 245.35lb of fish from peg 30 of Rushcombe!
Tim fished 3 ways: on a long pole (13) meters to the far bank with corn and pea-sized paste on a size 16 hook over micro-pellets in only 10 inches of water to have the biggest fish of the day at 9lb. When it slowed down he went down the inside margin on a size 14 hook, 2 foot from the bank with a fish here and there. But what caught him more fish than he expected was a 15 gram method feeder casting 2 meters short of the far bank in deeper water with micro-pellets and banded pellet and corn as a change bait that worked. He used a size 18 hook and 3lb bottom with a 6lb main line.
Tim estimates he had 170lb of small fish from 4oz to 2lb and around 75lb of larger fish between 3lb and 9lb. His bait was half a tin of sweetcorn and 1kg of micro-pellets.
A tip from Tim is never to take your eye off your rod as he had lots of bites from fish around the 1lb mark and very nearly lost his rod!
New: bookable camping pitches without electric hook up
By popular demand, we're pleased to announce that we now have 5 bookable grass pitches without electric hook up. So, if you just want to bring your tent/campervan/caravan, your barbecue and your fishing rod (optional!) - this could be for you!
This in addition to our 23 bookable pitches with electric hook up. We also have plenty of space available for 'free-range' camping without electric hook up. These areas cannot be booked in advance and you can just pick your spot on arrival.
Improvements to the campsite
September 2014 - our lovely new shower and toilet block in the campsite has been completed and it looks great. It comprises three rooms each with shower, toilet and sink (one offering disabled facilities) and a washing up area.
We now have a further 9 pitches with hard-standing and hook up points each with a lovely view towards Clevedon and over our 12 acre field. In addition to this there is also a further grass pitch with electric hook up; 5 bookable grass pitches without hook up and an area for free-range camping. Take a look at the pictures below to see how it progressed.
The dog exercise area has been relocated and you can now walk your dog around the stock lakes to the north of the camping area.Keep an eye on this page for updates.
North Pool Maintenance - Easter 2016
The North Pool has been undergoing some maintenance this week. The Lake has been dredged and many of the swims replaced. It does look a little bare and please take care as the paths may be slippery but there should be some great fishing to be had!
Carp Lake & Rushcombe Lake videos
August 2015: The Sheppard family stayed on the campsite recently and, while they were here, Jack filmed this great little video of the Carp Lake. Click here to view it. Even though it's titled 'Cornwall' it was here!
We've also received a smashing little video from Jeremy Johnson featuring daughter Rebekka (both season ticket holders) catching a lovely common from Rushcombe Lake. Click here to view it.
15lb carp caught from Rushcombe
John Hampton from West Bromwich has caught the largest fish recorded so far from Rushcombe Lake. The 15lb common was part of a 123lb bag.
John & wife Denise were staying with us on our campsite for a week’s holiday. They used flavoured luncheon meat bought from Perfection Baits based in Greybridge in the West Midlands, their local supplier. This bait was new to us but it’s a highly flavoured bait which proved very effective. John had 123lb and Denise had 82lb fishing pegs 40 & 41 respectively. John’s bag included a 15lb common (which is the biggest fish we have seen come out of this lake!), Denise’s largest fish was an 11.5lber, also a common. Both fished with a rod and line, 14 hook, 6lb main line and 4lb bottom line to the far margin.
New Stock in Rushcombe Lake - May 2015
1100 beautiful fish averaging 1lb each were introduced into Rushcombe Lake on 7th May. They immediately stirred up the existing residents in the lake and it's fishing really well! Photos on the gallery.
New pleasure bag record on Rushcombe Lake
Congratulations to Mark Bellringer from Weston super Mare who had a magnificent 216lb from peg 50. Mark was pole fishing to the far bank at 10 metres - all the fish were caught on paste. He's already intending to come back to try to beat his own record.
The previous record was held by Andy Stones who, in May 2012, had a fantastic 206lb bag from peg 16 of this lake. In a 6.5 hour session he had 87 fish in total all caught on the pole 4 metres out in open water on an 18 hook, 1.1lb bottom line and 3lb main line with sweetcorn, bread and cheese paste on the hook. He also fed a few micro-pellets.
This just pips the previous record of 200lb held by Jason Gore from peg 21 in August 2011.
Did you enjoy Broadchurch?
Did you enjoy the fantastic ITV series Broadchurch? Parts of it were filmed just 3 miles from here in the lovely Victorian town of Clevedon. Why not come to stay in our lovely holiday cottages or on our campsite and pay it a visit.
You'll recognise Hill Road (great for shopping and cafés) where the Broadchurch Echo was situated (that building is now being turned into a local market); the newsagent interior is in Alexandra Road; the seafront with the small amusement arcade and the beautiful church of St Andrew and the surrounding area. The town also has a grade 1 listed pier (just voted 'pier of the year for 2013) and a bandstand.
Free fishing: Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th March 2015
Despite the awful weather (strong winds and rain!) we had a great turn out to help us celebrate 20 years of Bullock Farm fishery being open. Everyone who came enjoyed free fishing over the weekend of Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th March 2015.
Thanks to everyone who sent us kind messages - we're now looking forward to the next twenty years!
Free fishing competition winners
The winner of free fishing for a year by entering our competition is Jason Smith, an all-round fisherman from Bristol.
And the winner of free fishing for a year by entering the competition in conjunction with the Angling Times is Paul Foden.
Congratulations to them both, we look forward to welcoming them.
Lakes & Campsite Maintenance and Improvements
A huge amount of maintenance and improvement work has been undertaken over the winter months including cutting back overhanging trees, clearing the banks, replacing swims, revamping the bridge to the island of Rushcombe Lake to make it more accessible, and improvements to the campsite, etc. Thanks to Benedict Simmons Landscaping for their hard work in the cold weather.

Re-vamp for the Hovis pegs
Good news for those who love to fish on the end of the peninsula on the North Pool - well-known as the Hovis pegs, as Ben has now built a fantastic deck across the whole end providing a safe, level platform to fish from.
New tench and bream have arrived
Our delivery of beautiful tench for the Match Lake and lovely bream for the South Pool has now taken place. The fish were supplied by Priory Fisheries in Devon and are excellent quality. There are some great photos on our website gallery - click here, and also on Priory's Facebook page - click here.
New pleasure bag record on the North Pool
July 2011 - a new pleasure bag record has been set on the North Pool: Clive Hadley from Henley in Arden, Warwickshire, spent a week on our campsite and came with the aim of setting a new lake record. This he did in some style taking a fantastic 305lb bag in the course of one day! All the fish were taken close in on the “Hovis peg”, on banded pellet over a continual bed of 4mm feed. Congratulations to Clive - great photo of part of his catch on the photo gallery, click here.
Charity event - The Willow Foundation
For the third year running, we're delighted to have hosted a charity fishing match organised by a wonderful young lady, Carrie-Anne Aldridge, to raise funds for the Willow Foundation. The charity, founded by former England goalkeeper Bob Wilson, organises special days out for seriously ill 16-40 year olds throughout the UK. So far Carrie has managed to raise a fantastic £800 towards this great cause just by holding a fishing match! This year's winner of the match was Stuart Harry who also won in 2009, Tony Lewis won in 2010.
You can visit Carrie's website by following this link: http://www.carriewillow.co.uk/
We're looking forward to welcoming the guys back in 2012 but wish Carrie all the best with her continued fundraising in the meantime.
A big thank you to those of you who leave their swim clear of litter, ready for the next person to come along to fish. Can we make a further plea to those who don't to please ensure that all litter is either taken home or placed in the bins provided in the car park. It's particularly relevant at the time of year when there are wildfowl nesting as it's very easy for them to get caught up in discarded line and hooks etc. Can we also ask that any large items of litter eg: chairs, nets, umbrellas, etc are taken home or to your nearest recycling centre for disposal. Thanks very much for your co-operation.
Carp Lake arrivals
On Tuesday 8th March 2011 we took delivery of some beautiful specimen carp to boost stock in the Carp Lake. These lovely commons and mirrors weighed in at up to 16lb. See more photos on the gallery - click here.
We've been on TV again!
Phil has made yet another TV appearance (for no fee I should add!), this time on national TV. Earlier in the summer we were approached by Tom Sims who was appearing on the BBC3 programme 'Don't Tell the Bride ' asking if we would have space to put a yurt to accommodate his wedding guests. For those of you who aren't familiar with the programme, the groom is given £12,000 towards the cost of his wedding but has to organise the whole event himself with no input from his bride at all. Unfortunately Tom's yurt dream didn't come to fruition therefore there was no wedding reception here but Phil did make a couple of brief appearances in the programme.
Angling Times Top 50 Stillwaters
We're delighted to feature in the Angling Times' Top 50 Stillwaters feature published in March 2010.
Pleasure bag record broken on the Carp Lake
Congratulations to Shawn Kittridge who has broken the pleasure bag record on the Carp Lake! Shawn, a carpenter from Weston super Mare, broke the record on this lake with a huge 243lb pleasure bag, beating the previous record of 230lb set by Haydn Thompson last June. Shawn's bag came from peg 1 and included mirrors to 12lb, crucians to 2.5lb and commons to 8lb. He fished on the pole to the left-hand margin 7 metres and 13 metres from his swim. A combination of paste and corn over 4mm pellet on a 14 hook and 4lb line with 16 elastic made it work for him. Luckily for Shawn, his haul was witnessed by his friends as they were fishing in the lake adjacent to him in the final of the Kev Perry Series.
If you are completely new to angling or maybe just a little bit rusty and feel you need some tuition, take a look at our links page to get details of qualified local coaches in our area who can provide tuition at our venue. Click here for details.
Why not get one of our Bullocks car/window stickers? Sure to turn heads and costing just 50p they're a bargain. We can also send these out in the post for £1.50 each to cover postage and admin. Just ask Phil when you see him.
