Carp Lake

Specimen Carp Lake with recorded weights of carp up to 27.5lb and with individual bags of up to a whopping 243lb.

There are 22 well spaced out swims, virtually all with their own feature, set out in such a way that you feel you have the lake all to yourself.  The lake goes to a depth of 8 feet in some areas - the deeper areas are next to pegs 1-5, 9-10, 13-17 and peg 22.  .

Current Lake Records

Pleasure bag:   Shawn Kittridge 243lb. Shawn, from Weston super Mare, holds the record on this lake with a huge 243lb pleasure bag, beating the previous record of 230lb set by Haydn Thompson (see below).  Shawn’s bag came from peg 1 and included mirrors to 12lb, crucians to 2.5lb and commons to 8lb.  He fished on the pole to the left-hand margin 7 metres and 13 metres from his swim.  A combination of paste and corn over 4mm pellet on a 14 hook and 4lb line with 16 elastic made it work for him.

When you have a brilliant day, you hope there are plenty of witnesses as was the case when Haydn Thompson (from Bristol) broke the previous pleasure bag record with a massive 230lb.  His mammoth haul was seen during a 9 hour session by Glyn Hewer and Christina Ferris who were camping here with Haydn.  He fished peg 21 (the same peg as the previous record of 216lb held by Mark Walsh - see below).  He had 26 carp including mirrors to 21lb 3oz and commons to 13lb.  He used a method feeder with luncheon meat and groundbait with a 10 hook, 12lb line fishing to the point of the island.

This beat the previous record set by Mark Walsh of Clevedon (aka ‘The Biscuit Man’!).  Mark hauled in a tremendous 216lb of fish using floating dog biscuit, a size 10 hook and a 10lb line.  His biggest fish was a 14lb mirror.  All fish were caught tight to the island in front of peg 21.

Prior to this John Raby held the record at 211lb.  John, a regular visitor from Bolton, staying in our holiday cottages, held the pleasure bag record having taken 211lb in one session in October.  His bag included a 15lb mirror and commons to 10lb.  John fished peg 7 with bread flake over liquidised bread, using a 14 hook, 5.5lb line, 14 elastic in open water.

Individual fish: 27.5lb
