Rushcombe Lake.....
Rushcombe lake is named after the field
in which it is located. It's 650 yards long, with each swim having 10
yards of water to the far bank. It’s 4 feet deep, with a 2 foot feature
shelf on the far bank, running the length of the lake. Access to the
large island is via a footbridge. Purpose-built swims have been
installed to provide sturdy platforms to fish from.

Stocking took place on Thursday 29th
May 2003 when Will Glennon from the BBC local news was here to
record the event and to take film of us putting in our 28,000 carp. We
had our two minutes of fame when Will kindly broadcast the feature on
the local evening news. Our technical abilities on the website don't
quite stretch to be able to show you the video but you can
to view a photographic record of the event. Big thanks go to Nigel
Allen who kindly took these superb shots for us.
- The lake was officially opened
on 19th October 2003 and now, in its fifth year, is going from
strength to strength. For pleasure fishing go as
light as you can and you will get a fish a chuck -

latest fishing report.
In May 2007, Paul Worrell, from Stevenage took a
record breaking 122lb bag on Rushcombe Lake, whilst on
holiday in our cottages and e-mailed us with the full details.
Paul fished on
the pole all day. He started off fishing on the inside margin with 6mm
pellet on the hook and feeding 4mm pellet. Later on in the day the fish
came up in the water so he fished 6mm pellet on the hook but as he was
missing too many bites, he changed to 6mm cubes of meat and fed 4mm cube
of meat lightly over the top. He ended up with 406 fish weighing
122lb!
Geoff Winder,
another of our regular holiday-makers from Leicester, e-mailed us to
say that, despite the dreadful weather they experienced while
they were here on holiday in June, they were amazed at the amount of fish they
caught. The lads held a mini-match, fishing Rushcombe for
the first time. 65lb won it, 39lb was the
bottom weight.
Not
satisfied with 122lb, Paul Worrell returned here on holiday in
August 2007 and smashed his own record on this lake! He took a
fantastic 137lb from peg 6. He used an 18 hook, 1.5lb line out
in open water with small cubes of plain luncheon meat on the hook.
This is Roger Inglis,
a Nailsea salesman with just over 300 fish that he caught in just over 3
hours in November 2004 in bright sunlight and a fresh north wind. He
had 27lb of fish overall going to 8oz - a mixture of mirrors and
commons. Roger fished on the island with a pole, size 16 hook, 2lb
line, light elastic, maggot over maggots in open water. He returned the
next day with his daughter, Kelly who, not to be outdone by her
Dad, had this lovely netful of fish on her first day fishing on her
own. Well done Kelly!
