"Fifty waters you must fish in
2008" - Angler's Mail, 8th January 2008...
We are very proud to be listed
in this cracking feature as one of the 50 waters you must fish
in 2008. The Angler's Mail asked their six regional
experts to suggest the best venues to fish this year and we were
lucky enough to be included with the comments:
"Why you
must fish here: bites, bites and more bites from this
fish-stacked venue; and it seems as though there are as many
features as fish! Key details: Phil Simmons has been
steadily creating a first-class fishing complex: 5 lakes all
holding big stocks of fish with a massive head of smaller carp,
crucians, plus tench and silvers.
Bigger carp
roam the Carp Lake and in summer when the vegetation is lush,
you can forget there are other anglers around you. In
winter scale down to single maggot, bread punch or smaller corn.
There are great
facilities here: ample car parking, cafeteria services, and
accommodation.
Interesting
fact: North Pool featured in a series of Hovis television
adverts featuring ducks.

Brian Gay."

place and things are much better under foot!
Resurfacing of the car park...
Resurfacing of the entire car
park has now taken place and it looks fantastic! If you're
into tarmac or road laying machinery (somebody has to be!), here
are a couple of photos of the event. We'd just like to
express our thanks to everyone who put up with the noise and
inconvenience whilst the job was being done - hope you
think it was worth it. (Once you've viewed the photos

No smoking legislation...
The no smoking legislation
came into force on 1st July 2007. We obviously have
to comply with the rules and this means that the cafe, the
covered area outside the cafe, the toilets and showers are
strictly no smoking areas. Appropriate signage is in
place.
For those of you who wish to
continue to smoke around the lakes we would ask that you please
consider non-smokers around you and dispose of cigarette ends
responsibly.
Many thanks for your
co-operation.
Come to stay at our Camping
& Caravanning Club Campsite...
We charge £7
per night for camping which includes use of our hot
showers and toilet facilities. Full details can be found on the Campsite page of our website,
In times of wet weather please keep motor vehicles, particularly
motor homes, to the hard road. It's best to stop in the
car park - before the Campsite sign - and check conditions
before you drive onto the field. If you are in any
doubt, please call us on 01934 835020 as we are not always in a
position to pull you out if you get stuck.
We
look forward to welcoming you.
Radio Bristol feature...
For those in our local area, you may be
interested to know that last year we were featured on Radio Bristol.
The shows went out
at 6.45pm on three consecutive Fridays in January 2007 on Ben Prater’s drive-time show. Ben
interviewed ‘Big Phil’ (so the diet’s not making it then?!)
about the fishery on the 12th and spoke to two fishermen about
their catches the following week. The feature was called the Bristol Kipperdrome!

Records being
smashed...
August
2007: Paul Worrell (see below), managed to beat his
own record on Rushcombe Lake taking a fantastic 137lb in
one session
from peg 6. He used an 18 hook, 1.5lb line out in open
water with small cubes of plain luncheon meat on the hook.
May 2007: Paul Worrell, from Stevenage took a
record breaking 122lb bag on Rushcombe Lake,
whilst on holiday in our cottages and e-mailed us with the full
details.
Paul fished on the pole all day. He started off
fishing on the inside margin with 6mm pellet on the hook and
feeding 4mm pellet. Later on in the day the fish came up in the
water so he fished 6mm pellet on the hook but as he was missing
too many bites, he changed to 6mm cubes of meat and fed 4mm cube
of meat lightly over the top. He ended up with 406 fish
weighing 122lbs
July 2006: Pete
Sivell has broken the evening match record on the North
Pool with 69lb carp taken on the pole with paste and
corn from peg 23. He narrowly beat his team mate Alan
Oram who had a magnificent 61lb 4oz from peg
6.
June
2006: A new record pleasure bag has been set on the Carp
Lake by Mark
Walsh of Clevedon (aka ‘The Biscuit Man’!).
Mark hauled in a tremendous 216lb of fish
using floating dog biscuit, a size 10 hook and a 10lb line. His
biggest fish was a 14lb mirror.
All fish were caught tight to the island in front
of peg 21.
Did you see the
Hovis ads?...
You might have seen the series
of Hovis adverts where two ducks were discussing whether to have
white or brown bread for tea but you may not have realised that
the ad was filmed here in June 2005 on the North Pool.
Award-winning Aardman Animations spent a few days
with us here and those ads were the result. Interesting to
see how much preparation goes into making something which lasts
for just a few seconds!

our first attempt at video of the lakes - see the information

New Carp arrive - 6th
January 2005...
Approximately 1400 additional
carp have been added to top up the Match Lake and South Pool.
These superb quality mirrors and commons to 2.5lbs were
introduced on Thursday 6th January on a lovely winter's day.
They'd travelled from highly respected Framlingham Fisheries in
Suffolk, where we also purchased the 28,000 carp to stock the
Rushcombe Lake almost two years ago. Pictorial evidence below.

Des Shipp visits Bullock
Farm...
On 25th November 2004, we were
delighted to welcome Des Shipp to Bullock Farm. Des was
accompanied by Brian Gay who writes for the Angler's
Mail.
For those of you who may not know,
Des has won international caps for Drennan Team England at Six
Nations, European Championships and also won a silver medal in
the World Championships as the squad reserve in Belgium this
year. He is sponsored by Preston Innovations and Sensas.
Des and Brian were here to check
out the form for features in the angling press - the New Year
edition of Angler's Mail carried the first of these entitled
'The Dog's Bullocks!'. Des chose to fish the Match Lake,
successfully targeting the crucians for an excellent 40lbs bag
on a cold but dry winter's day. He also had the distraction of
Brian in the water alongside him taking photographs - now you
know how it's done for the magazines! In between taking
photographs, Brian fished the Rushcombe Lake, successfully
catching loads of small carp. See pictures (click the back
button on your browser to return to this page).
Under 14's MUST be
accompanied by an adult...
Unfortunately, due to the
actions of a minority of ill-behaved under 14's we are now strictly enforcing this rule - the only exception will be valid
season ticket holders who will be allowed to fish
unaccompanied. For the benefit and enjoyment of all our
customers, we operate a zero-tolerance policy on anyone found to
be causing a nuisance and will not hesitate to enforce a ban if
necessary. Parents: we need your help with this as
unaccompanied under 14's will be asked to leave.
Holiday Cottages...
Both of our
cottages are rated as 'very good 3-star properties' by the
English Tourism Council.
Have a look at the pictures, we
hope you'll be impressed. Some comments from our visitors'
book:
"accommodation excellent, fishing brilliant".
"lovely
accommodation, excellent hosts, thanks for a wonderful week,
we'll be back in the summer".
