    Rod Licences

Anyone over the age of 12 fishing in freshwaters in England or Wales must have a valid Environment Agency Rod Licence.  We do not check these but we do get occasional visits from Environment Agency representatives who do.  You can buy a rod licence at the Post Office or on-line at the following link:

    Local Pubs & Restaurants

    PUBS:

    Within 10 minutes drive

The Blue Flame, West End, Nailsea,  01275 856910.   Nice drive or cycle ride across the moors.  Proper old-fashioned drinking pub (décor reflects this!).  Phil recommends the Bass and we like the locally produced Thatchers cider but, be warned – it goes straight to your knees!  Nice beer garden on a sunny day and occasional live music on a Sunday lunchtime.  They sometimes do filled rolls but no other food.  A Bristol bakery visits on a Thursday lunchtime with pasties and pies.

The Drum & Monkey, Kenn, 01275 873433.    Approx 6-7 minutes drive heading back towards Clevedon.  Busy roadside pub with large dining area.

The Salthouse, Seafront, Clevedon.  Super location overlooking the sea with large outdoor seating area with patio heaters.  Varied menu available and probably worth a visit for the view alone.

The Bridge Inn at North End, Yatton, 01934 839139.    Closest pub to the lakes and cottages.  Approx 3-4 minutes drive or a 20 minute walk.  Big roadside pub serving reasonably priced ‘average’ food.  Great indoor and outdoor area for kids.  Large car park.

The Old Inn, Paul’s Causeway, Congresbury. 01934 832270    Nice place for a Sunday lunchtime drink in the winter.  Roaring log fire and small but cosy bar area, it does get busy.  Well kept Bass if you’re a real ale enthusiast.  No food.  Beer garden.

The Plough, Congresbury.  01934 877402   Nice atmosphere, cosy pub doing good food.  Nice garden area.

    Within 20 minutes drive

Black Horse, Clapton in Gordano, 01275 842105.    Pretty drive through narrow country lanes to reach this very popular old pub which features in the Good Pub Guide.  Beer garden.

White Hart, Wrington Road, Wrington, 01934 833303.    Best to book if you want food here as they get very busy (01934 833303).  Extensive menu, good quality food, reasonably priced.

New Inn, West Town Road, Backwell,  01275 462694.    Well-known locally as the best place for fish.  Under new management so we don't have an up to date report - yet!
